Description

The Dehours estate was founded by Jérôme’s grandfather, Ludovic, in 1930 and was among the first independent growers. Jérôme’s father, Robert, then took over the reins, but unfortunately he passed away when Jérôme was young, and a group of financial partners took control of the business. In 1996 Dehours was able to take the estate back into family hands with a focus on sustainable viticulture and an increasing emphasis on the character of individual terroirs. Today he uses his excellent wines to demonstrate the outstanding potential of Pinot Meunier, which he holds up as the identity of the Marne Valley and of his estate.

This is the same wine as La Croix Joly but the Rose version. Here we have Old-vine Meunier planted on a gentle north-eastern slope in a region called Troissy. What do 'Old-vines' bring to the table? Well, for the uninitiated, the yield for one is a lot less than a younger vineyard but the fruit is more intense, more characterful as the vines roots are deep in the soil. Oeil de Perdrix, meaning 'eye of the partridge' takes the name as the very pale pink denotes the tones in the glass. It is arguably the lightest Rose we have ever seen. The nose is full of tangerine and orange peel with sweet red berries and toasty vanilla. If you enjoy dry champagne, this certainly has a very clean and mouthwatering sensation with fresh citrus, pink grapefruit and white peach finishing the ensemble.
