Description

Roederer did not get its present name until 1833, but was in existence as far back as 1760 under the name of Dubois Père & Fils. Louis Roederer was a hardworking man who succeeded in selling his Champagne in several important export markets. Roederer's real ace was, as with Clicquot, the Russian market. Tsar Alexander II wanted a more impressive label to show his guests, and in 1876 he made a special order for the first transparent Cristal bottles, which at that time actually were made of genuine crystal. Every Louis Roederer Champagne is a work of infinite patience: aging in wood, frequent tasting, allowing each wine the time it needs to be the complete celebration of human handiwork. Such is the price of passionate love for vine and a desire to preserve the style of each different wine.

Roederer's 2010 Blanc de Blancs is already showing very well, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of wheat toast, freshly baked bread, green apple, tangerine and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and expansive, with a pinpoint mousse, succulent acids, excellent depth at the core and a long, elegantly chalky finish. The 2010 saw five years sur lattes and nine grams per liter dosage. Purists will want to give it another couple of years on the cork to reveal all its incipient complexity, but it is already difficult to resist. Wine Advocate 93
