Description

Little needs to be said when the American critic Robert Parker’s first winery to visit in Australia is Rick Burge’s humble “cellar door.” Located in the famous Barossa Valley, Rick makes no more than 3,000 cases of wines a year. All grapes are estate-grown and his wines are surprisingly “non-Parker” style. Recent tastings of Burge Family’s wines confirmed that they are fresh and packed with fruit but unexpectedly light on its feet. This range of boutique wine is as elegant as Barossa can get.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Draycott Shiraz reveals a wonderfully intense and complex nose of blackberry preserves, stewed plums, dried mulberries and Indian spices with underlying hints of dusty earth, peppered salami and potpourri. This medium to full-bodied wine offers a harmonious interplay of multi-layered flavors and firm, rounded tannins enlivened by just enough acidity before it finishes with excellent persistence. Drink it now to 2024+. Wine Advocate 93
