Description

Domaine de Fontbonau is a partnership between the president of Château Latour, Frédéric Engerer, and Jérôme Sarda Malet. This blend of Grenache and Syrah is sourced from vines aged 30-70 years. The 2013 Domaine Fontbonau Côtes du Rhône drinks more like a fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape than a Côtes-du-Rhône. Thanks to the old vines and soil composition this wine has impressive structure and depth. It’s loaded with dark berry fruit, silky tannins and complex structure. It drinks like a wine easily double the price. Enjoy this succulent red with lighter red meats and earthier fare. It’s a great match for lamb or veal.

My favorite of the reds, the 2013 Côtes du Rhône Domaine de Fontbonneau is medium-bodied and lightly textured, with a sappy quality in its lavender, spring flowers, mint and strawberry aromas and flavors. Made from 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, completely destemmed and aged 18 months in barrels, it needs six to 12 months in bottle to round into form and will drink well for 5-7 years. Wine Advocate 88
