Located in the Loire valley, the Saumur-Champigny appellation specialises in red wines made from Cabernet Franc. Thierry Germain came to the region from Bordeaux in 1991 and quickly became a leader in terms of quality. His low-yielding vines are worked according to biodynamic principles and although the top cuvees see some oak the intensity of flavour in the fruit ensures that wood never dominates.

From averaging 40 years old vines the purple colored 2014 Franc de Pied offers a deep, ripe and rich but also pure bouquet of dark berries, cherries, licorice, violets, crushed stones and refreshing phenols. Full-bodied, round and elegant, this is a mouth-filling, dense and mineral, finesse-full Cabernet Franc with fine tannins; it has a firm yet refreshing structure and a long and complex finish.
