Description

Established in 2002, Vinedos Alonso del Yerro is located in the heart of Ribera del Duero near the small village of Roa. Led by renowned Bordeaux winemaker, Stephane Derenoncourt, known for both his viticulture and winemaking expertise, he is also responsible for many of the grand cru & fine wines of Bordeaux. The wines are carefully produced with Tempranillo and Tinta de Toro, resulting in wines that reflect elegance, minerality and are respectful of the origin & vintage. In the Viñedos Alonso del Yerro vineyards, all agricultural work is done by hand. They avoid the use of synthetic products and respect the factors determining the expression of the terroir. This is achieved not only in protecting the environment of the plant, but also observing the quality offered each year by the different soils, making respectful vinifications, and combining the wines from the various plots to balance it before the ageing in barrels begins.

The 2010 Crianza is a selection of Tempranillo grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 10-15 months in a combination of new (15%) and used French oak barrels. The nose is very expressive, fresh, with a mixture of red and black fruit, developing complexity and absorbing the oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied with clean, delineated flavors. The tannins are sweet and the acidity is moderate, it could do with a little more freshness (and perhaps a little less oak). In any case, this is a superb value for money. Drink now-2020.
