Description

Edward Tyrrell planted his first vines in the Hunter Valley in 1858 establishing Tyrrell's Wines. His first vintage was in 1864 and by the turn of the century the land had became recognized as some of the Hunter Valley's finest vineyard land. The Hunter Valley was ideal for the production of premium wines, notably Shiraz in the reds and Semillon in the whites. These two varieties provided the basis for the beginning of the Tyrrell's premium Winemaker's Selection Range. From being a very traditional Hunter Valley winery, Tyrrell's have expanded their portfolio to include some excellent new wines from Victoria and McLaren Vale, under their Rufus Stone label.

The 2008 Vat 47 Chardonnay has aromas of ripe apricots, orange peel and honeydew melon with hints of coriander seed and toast. Light-bodied with a silky texture and medium-high, balanced acid, it has a good amount of citrus and apple flavors and a long finish. Drinking nicely now, it should cellar to 2017+. WA91+
