Pierre-Yves is one of the best winemakers in Chassagne and Chassagne is currently an incredibly dynamic village with lots of great winemakers, so it’s not a loose statement. Not only does he make the wines from his own vineyards but also those from his wife Caroline’s vineyards. The tell-tale precision, extract, sophistication and sheer class of these wines is pure Pierre-Yves. The range is currently quite small but Caroline will be inheriting various other plots in the future so it could expand rather nicely. Going forward she will also be taking a much more hands on role in the estate. Oak is well used on these wines; around 25% for the Saint-Aubins and 35/40% for the Chassagnes. They all have a strong sense of dry extract on the finish which adds length, complexity and a mouth-watering quality which is quite delightful.
