Description

Located in the village of Orschwihr and established in 1691, Domaine Valentin Zusslin is a biodynamic estate now managed by 13th generation brother and sister team of Jean-Paul and Marie Zusslin. The vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. In 1997 the domaine converted to biodynamic viticulture. Most of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar is done by hand, this allows the grapes to express the full potential and the unique terroirs of the Domaine.

The 2014 Riesling Clos Liebenberg Monopole displays a golden-yellow color and shows an open as well as beautifully matured bouquet with intense and flinty Riesling aromas, dried fruit aromas (apricots, mirabelles) and wax. On the palate, this is a rich and round, quite powerful but substantial Riesling with intense and concentrated fruit and a still vital, mineral acidity. The 2014 was bottled with almost 13% alcohol and, by nature, more residual sugar than usual (6.8 grams per liter). This Clos Lobenberg is perfect to drink today, but it can be aged for another 5 to 10 years. Tasted in May 2020. Wine Advocate 93
