Description

Given the effects of the terribly hot 2003 growing season as well as those of the high-yielding, cool, wet 2004, lovers of great Sancerre truly have only two choices; either they must do without while waiting for future good years or they can go back to some of the top-flight 2002s that are still entering the market. I am going with the second option and am looking forward to acquiring a case of Boulay’s terrific 2002 Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu. It bursts from the glass with loads of ripe white fruits spiced with nutmeg and notes of sweet limes. On the palate, this outstanding, medium to full-bodied effort reveals superb depth, concentration, mouth-feel, and length. Its spicy, creamy personality displays flint, slate, minerals, red currants, and candied lime notes. Enjoy this wonderful Sancerre over the next 4 years while waiting on Nature to be kinder to the Sancerrois. Wine Advocate 92 (2002)
