Description

Situated next to Dehlinger and Kistler in the Russian River Valley, their Pinot Noir are as good as any Californian wineries can produce. They are relatively elegant yet retaining the essential ripeness of fruit we all find and adore in New World wines. All wines receive around 50% of new oak.

More tropical in character with lots of orange marmalade and peach jam notes is the 2012 Chardonnay Cahill Lane, which comes 100% from Old Wente clones planted in Goldridge soils. Stephen Hansel told me that yields tend to be relatively large because of the fertility of the vineyard. Notes of pineapples, honeysuckle, buttered popcorn and apricot marmalade are buttressed by good acidity, an elegant yet full-throttle mouthfeel and a delicious, long, dry finish. It should drink well for 5-6 years. Wine Advocate 93 (2012)
