There are three barrels of the 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans, one of which is new. Offering up aromas of dark berries, spices, wood smoke and a touch of new oak, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a plush attack and a succulent mid-palate, though some firm structuring tannins assert themselves on the finish; if those resolve, my score will look conservative. Wine Advocate 89-91+
