Description

How long can a dry Chenin Blanc age? Gaston Huet's 1948 Vouvray le Haut Lieu Sec is aged 67 and could be ready to retire, but does not. From a vintage in which, according to Richard Kelley, no sweet wines were produced, the golden-amber colored 1948 shows a very clear, precise, intense and highly elegant bouquet of iodine and ripe fruits intermixed with refreshing flavors of crushed stones and spicy aromas. Not really big but powerful, mineral and intense on the palate, this medium-bodied Chenin is concentrated, firmly structured and very persistent; it is a tightly-woven Chenin of great finesse, tension and terroir expression. If I only could, I would drink all my Chenins aged 67 – but they should be good as this one is. Wine Advocate 95
