Description

CASARENA (translated as “Sand House”) Winery & Vineyards is named after the earth-toned stucco exterior of the winery located on Brandsen Street, in the heart of Perdriel district in Luján de Cuyo region. Approximately 20 minutes away from downtown Mendoza, this viticulture project began in 2007 after the rebuilding of a century-old family winery.

We also jumped from 2012 to the 2015 Malbec Jamilla's Vineyard, as no 2013 or 2014 were bottled, and they jumped to fresher vintages, produced with grapes from a vineyard planted in Perdriel in 1995 on clay soils with gravel and abundant stones. Most wines undergo a very cold soak (-5 degrees Celsius) for some seven to ten days before fermenting with native yeasts followed by malolactic in barrel where the wine is kept for one year before bottling. It's still pretty young and undeveloped, with some smoky notes over a core of plums and cherries with some spices thrown into the mix. This is also from stony soils and combines the juiciness of the variety with the austere minerality from the soils. 30,000 bottles produced. Wine Advocate 93 (2015)
