Description

The Winery is settled in the heart of Vistalba, in the region of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. Today Riccitelli Wines manages 20 hectares, divided in three dif- ferent vineyards at the foot of the Andes Mountains between 980 and 1120 m.a.s.l. Most of those vineyards were planted at beginning of 20th century. This is a young and dynamic project, in which Matias wants to express the full potential of Argentine Terroirs while making top wines with constant care and personal style – essential elements for great quality – Riccitelli Wines com- bine a high level of technology, the richness of the native soil of their vine- yards, and new winemaking in Argentina.

The most ambitious of the whites, at least price wise, is the 2016 Old Vines from Patagonia Semillon sourced from forgotten 60+-year-old vineyards in Río Negro in Patagonia. Sixty percent of the volume fermented in used French oak barrels, and the rest in egg-shaped cement vats where both wines were kept for six months before they were blended. It has the seriousness, the subtleness, elegance and nuances old Semillon is capable of. This is not explosive or showy, it's a little restrained (it was also bottled days before I tasted it). This is a Semillon with great acidity and that is beautifully textured and tasty. It should develop nicely in bottle. This is only the beginning, because I think Semillon has (again) a bright future in Argentina. 3,000 bottles were filled in September 2016. Wine Advocate 93+
