Description

Located in the village of Orschwihr and established in 1691, Domaine Valentin Zusslin is a biodynamic estate now managed by 13th generation brother and sister team of Jean-Paul and Marie Zusslin. The vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. In 1997 the domaine converted to biodynamic viticulture. Most of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar is done by hand, this allows the grapes to express the full potential and the unique terroirs of the Domaine.

The 2015 Riesling Clos Liebenberg Monopole is super intense and initially incredibly chalky on the iodine and slightly oxidative flor nose (in fact, this reminds me of burnt chalk) that also displays mirabelle and peach or quince-skin notes. On the palate, this is a very elegant, refined and vibratingly fresh and mineral Riesling with enormous finesse, salinity and tension. This is a stunner for 2015. It's so fresh, linear and pure but certainly substantial, tight and with a lingering salty-mineral expression. A great Alsatian Riesling you shouldn't miss! Tasted in May 2020.Wine Advocate 95 (2015)
