Description

Koshu is a Japanese native grape variety which matches sashimi and tempura with salt. Grace Wine, (company name “Chuo Budoshu” in Japanese) was established in 1923 in Katsunuma, the birthplace of Japan’s wine industry and today the wine hub of Japan. This family-owned winery established by Chotaro Misawa is now run by his fourth-generation successor Shigekazu Misawa, whose daughter Ayana is in charge of winemaking. The main-winery is still in Katsunuma and produces primarily Koshu. Since 1990 the family has been concentrating its efforts on improvements in grape production. The winery’s goal is a wine reflecting a unique combination of soil, sunlight, and altitude. It has been a pioneer in replacing conventional Japanese viniculture with vertical shoot positioning to produce a more richly flavoured grape. The goal is wines that are eco-friendly, with a natural, gallant and quietly elegant taste.

Bright, clear lemon yellow with a grey tinge. Complex and elegant aromas of golden delicious apples, pears, quince, white pepper, clove, conifer, and toast spread out on the nose, fully integrated. Quite powerful on the palate, dry, with firm acidity, structured, with fruit flavours, minerality and a hint of oak forming an organic whole. The finish lingered and was long.
