The husband and wife team of Brendan and Laura Carter are the minds behind this relatively new wine label that is based in the Adelaide Hills but draws its fruit from as far away as the Riverland and Clare Valley. Fiano and Nero d'Avola come from the Riverland, where the Carters say they can achieve economically viable crops from those varieties without much (if any) irrigation. The Piemontese varieties come from the Polish Hill River section of Clare Valley, the Nebbiolo from a vineyard originally planted by Penfolds in 1990. These are fun, engaging wines meant to be consumed in their youth, with the focus largely on fruit quality.


The Clare Valley - in particular the hallowed halls of Polish Hill River - has been able to provide this Fiano an almost tropical quality due to the warmer days it sees without sacrificing its famous minerality that's become the trademark of the high acid whites the region produces. This is like drinking out of a pineapple, floating in the ocean with coral beneath your feet - it's our ultimate desert island wine. It's also a weapons grade food pairing - seriously, if you haven't had Slate Farm with Tacos you have not lived.
