Dating back to 1865 and described as one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates, Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay. The perfect location for cool climate wines, Klein Constantia produces some of South Africa’s top wines, including one of the world’s best natural sweet wines, Vin de Constance. The 2017 Metis Sauvignon Blanc has a focus on the nose that is undeniably Sauvignon Blanc with soft grapefruit and citrus tones, a strong mineral edge and focused green fruit aromas. The citrus core is evident but the mineral structure and the textural weight on the mid-palate are really thought provoking. The long finish is clean, fresh and lively with crisp acidity, good structure and texturally, this feels like it is halfway to Sancerre with its mineral tension. Klein Constantia winemaker Matthew Day make this wine in conjunction with Pascal Jolivet of Loire Valley fame.Wine Advocate 90
