Description

Established in the 1988 in Hokkaido as the 2nd Winery of the well-known Grace Wine (中央葡萄酒) from Yamanashi. The winery is now famous for its wine using high quality grapes grown and harvested in Hokkaido region, but during the early days, the winery was using local grape Haskap for their wine as Japanese wine was booming at the time for simple sweet easy-drinking wine. The winery facility is a huge building built of stock and rock in the Showa period as a grain warehouse.

Since 1993, the winery has started to cultivate and manage its own vineyard, reaching 2.0 hectare (2020) focusing in Pinot Noir. The vineyard is East slope facing and the soil type is tuffaceous sandstone. But they have also been working with a local grape farm - The Kimura Vineyard, who has been cultivating Pinot Noir in Yoichi area since the late 1980s. The winery has been separated from the mother company Grace Wine in 2011 and since 2012, they have released the Pinot Noir Private Reserve as their flagship wine every year.

Using the Pinot Noir from the Kimura Vineyards aged ranging from 15 - 35 years old, then aged in barrels for 8 months. Winemaking begins with cold maceration, trying to bring out the colours and flavours gently. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks, then moved to barrels for ageing. Assemblage after barrel tasing. The wine presents a ruby red colour, showing a charming aroma filled with red cherry, raspberry and hints of framboise. And on the palate, it shows ripe plum as well as red berries with a soft tannin in the finish.
