Description

Woody Farm & Winery is located in Kaminoyama, Yamagata (Northeast part of Japan Honshu). It was established in the year of 1997, and as its name tells you, they have two "faces": Farm and Winery. There are two stories about the origin of the name "Woody". One said it is because the facility is surrounded by nature. Another said it comes the owner's family name Kimura 木村, which means wood village. (Unfortunately?) Nothing to do with the famous celebrity Kimura Takuya. The family has been growing grapes, cherries and pears in the area, using the traditional tall trellised method. The history of the farm traces back all the way to 1950's when the 1st generation started growing cherry and grapes in the area, and started to supply winemaking grapes to domestic wineries since 1974. The vineyard of Woody Farm & Winery is in the Zao mountain ranges. The current size at 4.8 hectares, producing around 30,000 bottles every year, only using grapes harvested in their own vineyards. The first vintage of their domaine wine was released in 2013.

Albarino coming from 3 vineyards, 2 of them at average age of 4-5 years old, and another at 7-8 years old. Reaching 13.1% alcohol level. Total production was at 1400 bottles. 20% of the wines went through barrel ageing. Harvest was in mid-October (relatively late). Wholebunch pressed after harvest and fermentation was started in stainless steel tanks. The wine shows a golden yellow colour, with peachy honey citrus jammy aroma, then followed by floral notes such as jasmine and spices like ginger on the palate.
