JOHN DUVAL was the Chief Winemaker at Penfolds from 1986 - 2002, entrusted to make some of Australia's most iconic wines. In 1989, he was named International Winemaker of the Year at the UK’s 1989 International Wine & Spirit Competition. In 1991, and again in 2000, he was named Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London. After 29 years as a winemaker with Penfolds, he established his eponymous brand in 2003 and is focused on crafting wines from old-vine Barossa fruit. The winery is rated 5 Stars by James Halliday and total production is very limited, which is why the wines are so highly prized.

A Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro blend, the 2015 Plexus has a pale to medium garnet-purple color and nose of kirsch, red currant jelly and raspberry preserves with hints of Chinese five spice, hoisin, roses, black pepper and underbrush. Rich, concentrated, full-bodied and full-on seductive, it fills the palate with exotically spiced red fruit preserves. With plush tannins and a balanced freshness, it has a perfumed finish with satisfying persistence. Wine Advocate 93 (2015)
